- We will go through each part of the test to make sure everything is good to go for the test on Wednesday
- Wednesday – Unit 1 Test – How did our government form?
- Types of Government – Autocracy, Oligarchy, Monarchy
- Political Philosophers – Locke, Rousseau, Montesquieu
- Influential Documents – Code of Hammurabi, Magna Carta, 1628 Petition of Rights, 1689 Bill of Rights
- Declaration of Independence – What are the major parts of the Declaration that split us from Great Britain?
- Articles of Confederation – how did we change the Articles to form our Constitution and make it a better document for our country?
- Great Compromise – how did we combine the Virginia Plan with the New Jersey Plan to create our voting system?
- Checks and Balances – how does each branch of the government help and check each other?
- Marbury v. Madison – Judicial Review
- McCulloch v. Maryland – Necessary and Proper Clause
- Thursday – Start Unit 2 – Political Behavior
- Word Wall Vocab Posters – same as Unit 1 procedures
- Political Ideology Survey – which political party do you line up with?
- Does Republican and Democrat matter or does Liberal and Conservative matter?
- Political Parties – Republican, Democrat, Other
- Friday – Continue Unit 2
- Nominating Candidates – how do you nominate a candidate? How does a candidate win an election?
- Political Socialization – what causes you to choose your political leanings?
- Post-it activity – anonymously put up beliefs that have developed political socialization.
- Start Body Biographies – Political Parties
- You’ll work in groups to draw a body biography on the different major political parties in the United States. You’ll show how they differ from one another in their fundamental beliefs.

- Monday:
- Introduction
- Syllabus
- Class Expectations
- Tuesday:
- Unit 1 Packets (you get one packet for each unit that you must complete and hand in on the day of the test)
- Vocab Posters – Each student gets their own vocab word from the vocab list in the Unit 1 Packet. You will be asked to define the word, explain what the word really means (give an example, put it in a sentence, etc.), and draw a picture or diagram that shows what that word means.
- Types of Government – What are the different types of government and how they compare to our style of government?
- Influential Documents – you’ll work together to read through the “Code of Hammurabi,” “The Magna Carta,” “1628 Petition of Rights,” and “1689 Bill of Rights.” Then you’ll answer questions on each document and we’ll discuss them in class.
- Wednesday:
- Finish influential documents activity from Tuesday
- Philosophers – How did Locke, Rousseau, and Montesquieu influence our style of government/
- Declaration of Independence – the Declaration was written to set up how America would run their government differently than Great Britain. We’ll break down the Declaration and learn about the different parts.
- Thursday:
- Articles of Confederation – This led to our Constitution. How did it create the Constitution we now use for our law-making system?
- Constitution Convention – The founding fathers of our government system worked together to change the Articles of Confederation to make it work better for our country. What did they do?
- Great Compromise – How did we combine the New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan to make a Legislative Branch that would work for America?
- Friday:
- Checks & Balances – What is the checks and balances system and how is it used every day in our legislative, judicial, and executive branches?
- Federalism – Who has the power to do what? We’ll work through a Venn Diagram that shows who has the power to do what and how they work together.
- Separation of Powers – What powers do each branch of government have and how do they utilize their powers?
